There was without question a Romano British site here, and over 50 tons of stone were removed in 1956. However, the only find to indicate a villa is a single possible hypocaust box tile, and the record of this may possibly an erroneous reference to a find from another villa site between Crayke Castle and the church. Little appears to remain now, and nothing has been discernable on aerial photos.
