During construction of a reservoir in 1948, a small piece of a hypocaust flue tile was discovered. Trial excavation in 1956 uncovered mainly medieval finds, although a second hypocaust tile was found along with the possible remains of a hypocaust furnace.

Whilst usually described as a villa site, such slender evidence could easily have other interpretations. A report of the excavations is in the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal Part 157 pp 99-111.
