Dioscovered in 1899, the site was excavated in 1926 and 1930. The site appears to have begun with a quadrangular enclosure c. AD 71-80, possibly an Iron Age farmstead, followed by a house with outbuildings of either 2nd or 3rd century date, which incorporated a bath house. In the 4th C. a Roman Corridor Villa was built in two phases, both with hypocausts. The site is scheduled, and is on the English Heritage “At Risk” register

An account of the excavations is given in Philip Corder and John L Kirk, 1932 “A Roman villa at Langton, near Malton, E. Yorkshire” Leeds; Yorkshire Archaeological Society, a copy being available in the YAS library.
