Piercebridge
Pottery Kiln
Co. Durham, NZ 2104 1570

During the excavation of Piercebridge fort a Roman pottery kiln was uncovered under the road just outside the east gate. It was of the permanent self-supporting type with an oven floor and the pottery was dated to the Trajanic period. It may have supplied the (unlocated) fort which preceded the 3rd century one.
